Overview
Shared meals will provide vital food and nutrition assistance to people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As one of the world’s biggest hunger crises, 28 million people are food insecure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Armed conflict has forced families to leave their homes, and skyrocketing food prices have made staple items like maize flour, palm oil and cassava flour unaffordable. Across eastern DRC, the demand for emergency assistance is growing every day. The World Food Programme is on the ground, providing life-saving assistance to people in the DRC. In 2025, WFP plans to reach 6.4 million people with food and nutrition support while also investing in long-term hunger solutions where possible. WFP is focusing assistance on people uprooted by conflict — both those unable to return home safely and the families hosting them.WFP has resumed food deliveries in the DRC’s North Kivu province, including providing vital nutrition supplements to children, women and Mpox patients.
