Overview
Shared meals will support local school meal programmes in Pakistan, helping children access nutritious food, attend school and improve their ability to learn.
Pakistan continues to face high levels of malnutrition, with more than 40 percent of children under five stunted. Poor nutrition can affect children’s health, growth and ability to learn. It can also make it harder for children to concentrate and attend school regularly. Approximately 25 million children are not attending school, the highest number in the world, and school meals have shown they also help increase attendance. The World Food Programme (WFP) supports school meal programmes that help children get the nutritious food they need to grow and learn. These programmes encourage children to attend school regularly, improve their ability to focus in class and support better learning and social outcomes.
