Overview
Shared meals will fund nutrition support, school meals and livelihoods programmes in Yemen.
Over half of the population in Yemen — 17 million people — are food insecure. Ongoing conflict, economic collapse and a global rise in food and fuel prices have pushed the country into one of the world’s biggest hunger crises. The rate of child malnutrition is one of the highest globally with over two million children under five needing nutrition support. Despite funding shortages, the World Food Programme is on the ground supporting 3.6 million people in the southern areas of Yemen. 662,000 children under five and pregnant women are receiving nutrition support. WFP’s school feeding programme provides daily nutritious snacks in conflict-affected areas. This includes date bars or high-energy biscuits, which encourages children to attend school. Finally, WFP is running livelihood activities that help communities tackle problems like climate change and access to clean water.
