After four years of war, repeated displacement, attacks on infrastructure and disruption of basic services continue to undermine food security. WFP is distributing food and cash assistance to Ukrainians living near the frontline and those evacuating, supporting more than 600,000 people monthly.
Overview
Shared meals will provide food, cash, school meals and help restore livelihoods for vulnerable Ukrainians.
After four years of war, more than 10.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Over 420,000 people living in frontline regions are severely food insecure, and fighting continues to force thousands to flee every month. Many people cannot buy food as supermarkets are closed, poorly stocked, or not safely accessible. Others cannot afford nutritious food due to rising prices. Most depend entirely on humanitarian assistance. The World Food Programme (WFP) distributes food and cash assistance to Ukrainians living near the frontline and those evacuating these areas, supporting more than 600,000 people each month. Regular interagency convoys bring food and other essentials to hard-to-reach areas close to the frontlines. These are enabled by the WFP-led Logistics Cluster, which has facilitated 230 convoys since 2022. WFP sources more than 90 percent of its food inside Ukraine and partners with local bakeries to distribute bread, helping to improve efficiency and support local economic recovery and jobs.
